Men's Soccer defeats Ottawa, 2-0


FAYETTE, Mo. - Two second-half goals by Central Methodist University men's soccer forwards Ricardo Valsien and Erwin Sanchez, Jr., gave the Green and Black its third straight 2-0 win of the season.

The Eagles (4-0-1) remained atop the Heart of America Athletic Conference standings after goalkeeper German Schacht recorded his third straight clean sheet. Ottawa University (4-3) mustered only 11 shots in the game compared to 21 by Central Methodist.

Valsien scored his first goal of the season in the 59th minute. The Boca Raton, Fla., native broke the scoreless tie when his shot from 10 yards out beat Brave goalkeeper Drinnan Sante. Sanchez, Jr., was credited with an assist on the play.

Sanchez, Jr., added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute when he and midfielder Luis Costa played give-and-go around the Ottawa defense before scoring from nine yards out.

Schacht made six saves in the contest.

Sante had seven saves.

The Eagles will hit the road for six-straight games, beginning with Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday. Kickoff is set for�2 p.m. CT.
