Men's Soccer wins fourth straight, defeats Wildcats


CANTON, Mo. - Three second-half goals against Culver-Stockton College gave the Central Methodist University men's soccer team its fourth consecutive victory. The win closed out the Heart of America Athletic Conference regular season for the Eagles (12-5-1, 4-3 HAAC).

The Wildcats (3-14-1, 0-7 HAAC) concluded their season with Wednesday's loss.

Central Methodist, which has outscored its last four opponents 21-2, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute off Ricardo Valsien's sixth goal of the season. Thyago Catharino and Brendon Boucaud were credited with assists.

Catharino and Guilherme Frota each scored their sixth goals this season in the 51st and 58th minutes, respectively. Frota also assisted on Catharino's goal before pushing the margin to 3-0.

Jacob Schierding found Kevin Urbeck in the 66th minute to cut the deficit to 3-1, but Murun Altankhuyag's seventh goal of 2012 in the 72nd minute pushed the differene back to three. Mauricio Meneghello recorded an assist on the play.

Goalkeeper Corey Schelle made four saves in the first half for the Eagles. German Schacht had two saves in the final 45 minutes from his goalkeeper position.

Goalkeeper Richard Balek recorded three saves for the home team.

Central Methodist secures the fifth seed in the upcoming conference tournament and will travel to No. 9-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University on Saturday. Start time is yet to be determined.
