LAMONI, Iowa� - Graceland (Iowa) held off Central Methodist, 3-2, on Saturday evening in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.
Lamin Cessay got the Yellowjackets (7-6-2, 3-1-1) on the board first with a finish in the box in the second minute. Ryan Schlom started the play by streaking down the right side and feeding a cross to the feet of Cessay.
Graceland would score the second goal of the evening off a penalty kick by Andy Quintanilla after Cody Blettlinger took a foul inside the 18-yard box.
The Eagles (7-7-1, 0-5) found the back of the net for the first time Saturday in the 38th minute on a goal by Erwin Sanchez Jr.
Brandon Beresford put the Yellowjackets back up by two goals in the 56th minute.
Determined not to go quietly, the Eagles continued to take shot after shot to finally grab their second goal of the evening with seven seconds remaining in the game off a free kick just outside the 18-yard box by Guilherme Frota. However, the Green and Black were unable to gain possession again.
Graceland goalkeeper Michael Schmidt tallied seven saves on Saturday evening.
Netminder German Schacht went the distance for the Eagles, who outshot the Yellowjackets 13-11 and held an edge in corner kicks 6-4.
Central Methodist travels to Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) on Monday, Oct. 21. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT.
