MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that Central Methodist's Nahom Asfaw, Kidus Birhanu, Andrew Simpkins, Isaac Swoboda and Sean Tobeler are among 355 men's soccer student-athletes that have been named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Asfaw, a defender, and Birhanu, a forward, are both juniors from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Simpkins is a junior defender from Maryland Heights, Mo. Swoboda is a senior midfielder from Jonesburg, Mo. Tobeler is a junior defender from Boonville, Mo.
Goshen (Ind.) leads all institutions with seven individuals on the list.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
