CMU Soccer Teams Will Host Quarterfinal Matches

CMU Soccer Teams Will Host Quarterfinal Matches
Fayette, Mo. For the first time in Central Methodist University athletics history, both the Eagles and Lady Eagles' soccer teams will host their Heart of America Athletic Conference postseason tournament quarterfinal matches at home at Davis Field on Friday November 6th and Saturday November 7th.

"I am very proud of the advancement our soccer programs have shown this fall, and the efforts of the students and coaches," said CMU Athletics Director Brian Spielbauer. "I wish them the best as we enter the conference tournaments, and am excited about the direction that CMU athletic programs are headed!"

Alex Nichols and his Eagles men's squad locked up the fourth seed in the Heart of America Athletic Conference postseason tournament. CMU will host Grand View University this Friday November 6th at 7pm down at Davis Field. These two teams met on October 24th, when the Vikings upset the Eagles 2-1 in overtime. The Eagles went 8-10 in 2014, and finished this regular season with a 13-3-2 overall record in Coach Nichols' second season at the helm for CMU. This will be the first time that the Eagle men have ever hosted a postseason match, and the first time they have qualified for the postseason since 2012.

Men's Bracket

"We are excited about hosting the first round of the conference tournament," said CMU head men's soccer coach Alex Nichols. "Our goals however headed into the season were more than just hosting a first round game. We are appreciative and excited about it and we know whoever we will play will be a tough opponent. Our expectations are high and nothing will satisfy us.'

While the men have known for little over a week that they would host an opening round game, the women needed to still handle their business and hope for some help. The Lady Eagles defeated Avila last week and received some help on Wednesday evening, when Grand View defeated Missouri Valley 2-0 to secure home field for CMU in the quarterfinal match as the fourth seed in the tournament. CMU will host Culver-Stockton College this Saturday evening beginning at 7pm at Davis Field. The Lady Eagles defeated Culver-Stockton back on October 13th by a final of 2-0 in Fayette. This will be the first time since 2011 that the Lady Eagles have hosted a postseason match.

Women's Bracket

"It is nice to be able to host a first round playoff game," said CMU head women's soccer coach Dan Schmidlin. "Regardless of where we play, home or away, the goal is to win the conference tournament and make it to the National Tournament. Anything less will be a disappointment."
