Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist University men's soccer team began the 2016 regular season Tuesday evening, with a 6-0 shutout victory over the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets at Davis Field.
With the victory, the Eagles improve to 1-0 on the season, while Harris-Stowe State falls to 0-1.
The Eagles jumped on the Hornets in the first two minutes of Tuesday's match, and never looked back. Jackson Darnell (SO/Perth, Western Australia, Aust) scored on a pass from Joseph Oswin (FR/Bath, England) around the two minute mark, to give CMU the early 1-0 lead.
Central would then tally four more goals in the 21st, 33rd, 34th, and 44th minute, to take a 5-0 lead into halftime.
The second half rolled by with no offensive fireworks, until the 88th minute when Adrian Gutierrez Llorente (SO/Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) scored to cap of Central's 6-0 season opening victory.
In the win, goalkeeper Cameron Metcalfe (SO/Durham, England) earned the win, making one save in the first half; his only half of action. As a team, Central outshot the Hornets 26-7 in the match.
CMU returns to action Saturday, when they travel to face Hannibal-LaGrange University at 4:30pm. The Eagles return home next Wednesday, when they host Tabor College at 7:30pm at Davis Field.
