Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist University men's soccer team had an easy time with the University of St. Mary on Tuesday evening, defeating the Spires 6-0 on a rainy evening at Davis Field.
With the victory, Central Methodist improves to 4-1-1 on the season, while the University of St. Mary falls to 1-3 overall.
Central got on the board quickly Tuesday, attacking in the second minute when Adrian Gutierrez (SO/Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) found David Hillmann (SO/London, England) for the game's first goal. Just six minutes later, David Hillmann was back at it, scoring his second goal of the match off a deflection to give CMU the early 2-0 lead.
In the 15th minute, Gui Gallucci (SR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) found Rafael Ortiz (SR/Sao Caetano do Sul, Sao Paulo ) for the third goal of the match, and then Junior Kazeem (FR/London, England) connected on a pass to Liam Pescott (FR/Leicester City, England) to give CMU a 4-0 advantage. The Eagles would take that lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Eagles added two more goals in the 63rd and 64th minutes, to cap off the scoring. The first goal of the second half was scored by Kassio Atilia, while Adrian Gutierrez scored the second goal of the period.
The Eagles split time in the net on Tuesday evening. Starting goalie Cameron Metcalfe (SO/Durham, England) made one save in the first 45 minutes of play and picked up the victory in goal. Ferran Borras Marques (SO/Alicante, Spain) played the second half, finishing with three saves.
The Eagles are next in action this Saturday, when they host Graceland University in their first Heart of America Athletic Conference match at 8:30pm at Davis Field. The women's match will precede the men at 6pm.
