#9 Pioneers Blank Eagles

Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist University men's soccer team struggled to keep pace with the 9th ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University Pioneers on Wednesday evening, dropping their contest by a final of 2-0 at Davis Field.

With the loss, Central Methodist falls to 9-3-1 overall, and 5-2 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. With the victory, the 9th ranked Pioneers improve to 9-2-1 overall, and 6-1 in The Heart.

Both teams got off to a slow start on Wednesday evening, but the Pioneers would break through midway through the first half. Eduardo Heringer connected on a shot in the 31st minute, to put the Pioneers ahead of the Eagles 1-0.

Just a few minutes later, Tanner Hanjak found Etienne Proult for the game's second goal, extending the Pioneers lead to 2-0. That score would hold though the intermission.

In the second half, the Eagles put together a few strong attacks, but were not able to sneak anything past Pioneers' keeper Yann Passet. He finished the game with a shutout, while recording six saves.

The Pioneers outshot the Eagles 13-10 on Wednesday. Central was also called for 11 more fouls than MNU.

Individually for the Eagles, Elvis Barclay (JR/Atlantic City, N.J.) led the team with three shots. Goalkeeper Cameron Metcalfe (SO/Durham, England) took the loss for the Eagles, allowing both goals, while finishing with five saves in 90 minutes of action.

The Eagles return to action this Saturday, when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to face 15th ranked Grand View University at 4:30pm. Saturday's game has been selected as the NAIA Network Men's Soccer Game of the Week, presented by Stretch Internet.
