FAYETTE, Mo. - The Central Methodist men's soccer team defeated William Woods University 2-0 in the 2017 home opener Wednesday night.
NOTES
• Paulo Vac (SR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) led the Eagles with his first two goals of the season.
• Central Methodist outshot William Woods 13-2 on the night
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Vac led the way with the two lone goals of the match, and finished with three shots, all of which were on frame.
• Junior Kazeem (SO/London, England) did not finish with a shot, however he assisted both goals.
• Santiago Sierra (JR/Bogota, Colombia) and Leonardo Ferri (SR/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) each tallied three shots during the game with one being on frame.
• David Marshall paced William Woods offensively, providing the lone shot on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team tallied a shot early in the match, but after 15 minutes, Pery fired a shot off the crossbar. The score remained tied 0-0 after the following shot missed wide.
• Central Methodist added four additional shots in the remainder of the second half, however none were able to find the back of the net. The Eagles defense did not allow a shot from William Woods in the first half.
• Central Methodist missed high on a shot in the 49th minute, however William Woods nearly took the lead in the 52nd minute on a shot from Marshall that called upon Gelei to make his first save of the season.
• Central Methodist broke the 0-0 tie in the 76th minute on a goal from Vac that was assisted by Kazeem.
• Less than a minute later, the duo struck again as Vac found his second goal of the match, again assisted by Kazeem, to put the Eagles ahead 2-0.
• Central Methodist held William Woods to just one additional shot for the remainder of the match to take the 2017 home opener over the Owls 2-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Eagles totaled eight shots with four on goal in the second half.
• The Owls managed two shots with one on frame in the second half.
