FAYETTE, MO. - The No. 12 nationally ranked Central Methodist men's soccer team won 5-0 against Culver-Stockton College Tuesday evening at Davis Field, to improve to 6-1-2 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.
NOTES
• Central Methodist is now 10-2-2 on the year, as Culver-Stockton fell to 5-7-3 (3-6).
• Adrian Gutierrez (JR/Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) collected a career-high three assists in tonight's match.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Leonardo Ferri (SR/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) added three shots with one on goal for his team-high 11th goal of the season.
• Guzman Pery (FR/Madrid, Spain) finished with a game-high five shots, and a goal.
• Ricardo Olaya (SR/Bogota, Colombia) added his first goal of the season in the win.
• Jackson Darnell (JR/Margaret River, Australia) earned one assist, and a goal on four shots.
• Andrea De Simone (SO/Genova, Italy) tallied his first goal of the season as well with two shots on frame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Entering the second minute of play in the first half, Central Methodist tallied an early goal on a cross from Darnell that allowed Ferri to chip the ball over the keeper. The Eagles led 1-0, however were unable to score the remainder of the first half.
• In the 64th minute of play, Perry scored from a rebounded block by a Culver-Stockton defender, giving Central Methodist a 2-0 lead.
• With 22 minutes remaining in the second half, Gutierrez found Olaya at midfield for a 35-yard line drive shot that went into the top corner of the goal making the lead 3-0 in favor of Central Methodist.
• In the 71st minute of play, Central Methodist added to its fourth goal of the evening after a cross from Gutierrez allowed Darnell to put the Eagles ahead 4-0.
• Central Methodist added one more goal in the final 13 minutes of play, as Gutierrez sent a ball from the right side of the 18 into the box that found De Simone who finished the cross for the Eagles final goal. Central Methodist took the victory 5-0 over visiting Culver-Stockton.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Eagles outshot the Wildcats 24-2, and led 11-1 with attempts on goal.
• The Eagles held the advantage in corner kicks 8-1 over the Wildcats.
UP NEXT
• The Eagles will return to action this Saturday, October 21st, when they travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa and continue Heart play to face William Penn University. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
