FAYETTE, Mo. ---- The No. 12 nationally ranked Central Methodist men's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over (RV) Grand View University in the quarterfinals of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament Friday night.
NOTES
• Central Methodist improved to 13-2-3 on the year, while Grand View finished the season to 11-6-2.
• Central Methodist will travel to face No. 5 Baker University in the semifinals on Tuesday, November 7.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Guzman Pery finished with a goal, and two shots during the match.
• Leonardo Ferri and Paulo Vac also added a score each for the Eagles.
• Jackson Darnell earned two assists, and had one shot on goal.
• Vince Gelei picked up four saves in goal to preserve the clean sheet.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team was able to score a goal in the first half. Grand View finished the first 45 minutes with six shots and two on frame, while Central Methodist tallied nine with two on frame.
• 15 minutes into the second half, Pery found the back of the net off of a free-kick to put Central Methodist ahead 1-0.
• 11 minutes later, Darnell connected with Ferri to give the Eagles a comfortable 2-0 lead.
• In the final three minutes of regulation, Darnell tallied his second assist on the goal with a shot from Vac that put Central Methodist ahead 3-0. The Eagles defeated the Vikings 3-0 to advance to the semifinals in the Heart Tournament.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Central Methodist held the advantage in total shots 18-12 over Grand View.
• Central Methodist also led in shots on goal, 8-4, over Grand View.
• Central Methodist finished the match with three corner kicks, while Grand View was unable to tally one.

• The Eagles will return to action Tuesday, November 7, when they travel to Baldwin City, Kansas to face No. 5 Baker University in the semifinals of the Heart Tournament. Game time will be announced later this week.
