Paredes' Two Goals Propels Eagles Past Campbellsville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – There was no shortage of offense for the No. 1-ranked Central Methodist men's soccer program as they took down Campbellsville University, 4-1, on a rainy Sunday evening in Kentucky.

Rodrigo Paredes (JR/Asuncion, Paraguay) led the Eagles offensively, scoring two goals on two shots. His first goal came in the 10th minute mark, assisted by Jayton Johnson (FR/Columbia, Mo.) on a corner kick. Campbellsville knotted the score at the 25th minute mark, but Paredes had an answer just two minutes later to push the Eagles ahead.

A pair of goals from Victor Luengo (SO/Madrid, Spain) and Daniel Hernandez (SO/Bogota, Colombia) through a ten-minute stretch expanded the cushion for Central. Luengo punched in his shot on a free kick from 45 yards out at the 30-minute mark. Hernandez received a pass from Andrea de Simone (SR/Genova, Italy), which led him to juke out the keeper in a one-on-one situation to score at the 38th minute.

Play was physical from start to finish as teams combined for 38 fouls and five yellow cards, but the offensive power was the difference. Central tallied 13 shots in the contest, placing five on frame, while holding the Tigers to just eight attempts. Vince Gelei (SR/Dunakeszi, Hungary) got the win in the box with two saves through 90 minutes of play.

The Eagles will resume play on August 30th as they'll play host to Bethel University. The game is set to begin at 7 PM on Davis Field.
