FAYETTE, Mo. — Despite taking a second-half lead on Saturday afternoon, the No. 1 Central Methodist men's soccer team couldn't hang on, dropping its first contest of the season to No. 14 Bellevue.
Rodrigo Paredes (JR/Asuncion, Paraguay) put the Eagles ahead with a header in the 64th minute. But the Bruins got even with a goal that started with a penalty kick attempt that was deflected by Vince Gelei (SR/Dunakeszi, Hungary). Off the deflection, Bellevue found the back of the net.
The Bruins scored the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute just after the Eagles couldn't cash in on a penalty kick attempt.
Central Methodist outshot Bellevue, 11-5, and also won the corner kick battle, 5-0.
The Eagles will look to bounce back against Roosevelt (Ill.) on the road next Saturday at 1 pm.
