Eagles Bring Home Hardware from Conference Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After winning the Heart conference championship for the second straight season, the No. 1 Central Methodist men's soccer team placed seven players on All-Conference teams with Marcos German (SO/Madrid, Spain) and Daniel Hernandez (SO/Bogota, Colombia) sharing Co-Player of the Year honors. | COMPLETE LIST

German, who was also tabbed as the Heart Defensive Player of the Year, recorded seven goals and 12 assists on the season while anchoring a defense that allowed an average of just 2.72 shots on goal per game. He currently ranks 12th in the NAIA for total assists (12) and is 15th in assists per game (.670). He also was named First-Team All-Heart for the first time in his career.

Hernandez was also recognized as the Heart Offensive Player of the Year after recording 13 goals on the season. He also tacked on seven assists and 59 shots throughout the course of the season. He was named First-Team All-Heart for the second straight season.

The Eagles, who have also held the No. 1 spot in the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll for the last six weeks, are led by head coach Alex Nichols. He and his staff received the Heart Coaching Staff of the Year award.

Other Eagles named First-Team All-Heart were Vince Gelei (SR/Dunakeszi, Hungary), Rodrigo Paredes (JR/Asuncion, Paraguay), and Alberto Pangrazzi (SR/Lavis (TN), Italy). Gelei, who was also named First-Team last year and Third-Team in 2017, has only surrendered 11 goals and recorded 32 saves this year.

Paredes, who was named Second-Team in 2018, has impressed this season with nine goals and three assists. Alberto Pangrazzi received All-Heart recognition for the first time after a remarkable season at the forward position. Pangrazzi leads the team with 17 goals and also chipped in with three assists.

Rounding out the All-Heart honorees were Victor Luengo (SO/Madrid, Spain) and Fabio Tarnowski (SR/Avigliana, Italy), who were both named Second-Team for the first time in their careers. Luengo recorded five goals and 10 assists in his sophomore campaign, while Tarnowski excelled at the center back position, leading a defense that only has allowed an average of just 2.72 shots on goal per game. He has also scored twice and recorded one assist.

The Eagles earned the No. 1 seed in the Heart Men's Soccer Conference Championship and will host No. 8 seed Mount Mercy on Friday, Nov. 8 at 3 pm.
