Men's soccer returns to play with 1-0 win over MNU

Men's soccer returns to play with 1-0 win over MNU

Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist men's soccer team returned to action with a 1-0 victory over MNU Wednesday night at Davis Field.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-0 overall while the Pioneers fall to 5-3 overall and 5-2 in conference action. CMU also opens up its season 3-0 for the third consecutive year.

The Eagles started the game off strong posting three shots in less than five minutes. The only goal of the night came after senior midfielder Guzman Pery launched a long free-kick that found Tom Irion, who put the ball in the back of the net with a beautiful half volley.

The second half was played very evenly, as the Eagles defense held the Pioneers to only two shots, compared to 13 for Central. Overall, CMU posted 19 shots with eight coming on goal. Svenne Myrthy Andersen led the offensive attack with four shots, while Mark Csongradi, Irion, Pery, and Marcos German each posted two shots.

Stefano Camerlengo finished the game with three saves en route to his second clean sheet of the year.

CMU will next face Clark University Sunday, Oct. 18 at 11:00 a.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
