Marshall, Mo. – The No.1 Central Methodist men's soccer team defeated rival Missouri Valley College by a score of 3-1 Wednesday night in Marshall, Mo.
Central improves their record to 7-0 overall and in conference play, while the Vikings fall to 8-3-1, 7-2-1. The win marks the 100th career victory for head coach Alex Nichols, who now sports a 100-26-8 overall record as the head coach of the Eagles.
Central scored their first goal of the evening after Carlos Scheckermann flicked a cross to the back post, finding Tom Irion who headed the ball into the back of the net in the 12th minute of play. Not long after, in the 17th minute, Guzman Pery placed a ball in the box, where Scheckermann headed the ball in, giving CMU a 2-0 lead.
At the conclusion of the first half, Central finished with eight shots with four on frame, while Missouri Valley collected six shots and two on frame.
The Eagles scored their third goal of the match in the 73rd minute after Jayton Johnson found the back of the net on a cross from Hunter Gilliam. Missouri Valley trimmed the lead to 3-1, with seven minutes remaining in the match, but could not complete the comeback, as the Eagles claimed their third straight victory over the Vikings.
CMU finished with 20 shots and seven coming on goal. Nzojyibwami, Jayton Johnson, and Luengo collected four shots each, while Svenne Myrthu Andersen added three shots. Scheckermann finished with two shots, one goal, and one assist. Goalkeeper Stefano Camerlengo finished the game with seven saves and one goal allowed, earning another win between the posts.
Central will next face Baker University Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7:00 p.m. in Baldwin City, Kan.
