Conway, Ark. – The No. 1 Central Methodist men's soccer team opened up their 2021 spring season with a 4-0 loss against NCAA Division I member Central Arkansas, Friday night in Conway, Ark.
This marks the Eagle's first loss since September of 2019, snapping a 32 game winning streak. CMU falls to 12-1 overall while the Bears improve to 5-6-2.
The Bears jumped on the lead early in the first half. After conceding the first goal, Central started to create more chances. UCA scored its second goal of the evening on a free-kick at the top of the box, before entering halftime. CMU finished the first half with three shots on goal compared to five for the Bears.
UCA kept their high pace in the second half, scoring two more goals and handing the Eagles their first loss in nearly two years.
CMU finished the game with a total of 11 shots with only four being on goal, compared to 16 shots from the Bears with nine being on goal. Christian Sanchez led the team with two shots, both being on goal. Billy Nzojyibwami had two shots with one on frame. Alessandro Lacerti had the other shot on frame for the Eagles.
The Eagles will be back in action for their home opener against Mid-America Christian Tuesday, March 9 at 1:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
