Oskaloosa, Iowa - Behind their seventh-straight shut out to open the season, the No. 1 Central Methodist men's soccer team defeated (RV) William Penn University, 1-0 Saturday night in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
CMU improves to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while the Statesmen fall to 5-4 and 1-2 in the Heart.
Both teams remained deadlocked through the first 30 minutes of play, before Central jumped out in front on a goal from Billy Nzojyibwami on an assist from Stefano Campisi.
Despite both teams being even in total shots with 17 apiece, Nzojyibwami's lone goal in the first half proved to be the difference maker, as CMU earned a crucial 1-0 road victory.
Marcos German led the Central offense with five shots and two on goal, while Nzojyibwami, Victor Luengo, Alessandro Salvadego, and Vitor Antelo collected two shots each.
Sophomore goalkeeper Stefano Camerlengo recorded his seventh clean sheet of the season, recording five saves in 90 minutes between the posts.
The Eagles return home to host Benedictine College Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Davis Field.
