Men's soccer retains No. 1 national ranking

Kansas City, Mo. - For the second straight week, the Central Methodist men's soccer team landed at No. 1 in the fourth edition of the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll, as announced by the national office Wednesday.

Other Heart teams featured in the Top 25 include; No. 7 Baker, No. 10 Missouri Valley, No. 18 MidAmerica Nazarene, (RV) Grand View, and (RV) William Penn.

After last night's 3-0 shut out of Benedictine College, Central boasts a perfect overall record of 8-0 and 5-0 in conference play. The CMU defense and goalkeeper play has been key to the early season success, as the backline has recorded eight consecutive shutouts.

Collectively, CMU is No. 6 in the NAIA in goals scored, and sophomore goalkeeper Stefano Camerlengo ranks No. 1 nationally in goals against (0), and save percentage (1.000).

The Eagles remain at home to host (RV) Grand View University Saturday, Oct. 2 at 6:00 p.m. at Davis Field

Poll Methodology

  • The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.
  • The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second place, and so on through the list.
  • The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low rating) is removed and the team's ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appear on.
  • Teams that receive only one point on the ballot are not considered "receiving votes"
