Fayette, Mo. - The No. 1 Central Methodist men's soccer team pushed its win streak to 11 matches with a 4-1 victory over (RV) Grand View Wednesday night at Davis Field.
With the win, CMU improves to 11-0 and a perfect 8-0 in conference play. The Vikings fall to 7-3-2 and 5-1-1. The four goals scored mark the fourth consecutive match in which the Eagles have tallied three or more goals.
It was a scoreless first 23 minutes of action before Alessandro Salvadego put Central out front with a goal on the assist from Marcos German, his 10th of the season.
However, a defensive breakdown by CMU allowed the Vikings to spring free in the attacking third, slipping a ball past Aaron Hoffman to even the match at 1-1 less a minute later.
Just before halftime, Alessandro Lacerti dribbled down the far sideline and sent a cross into the box which found Billy Nzojyibwami. Nzojyibwami fired the ball past the Vikings' goalkeeper to put the Eagles back in the lead. Central would enter the halftime break with a 2-1 advantage.
An own goal in the opening five minutes of the second half by Grand View pushed CMU's lead to 3-1. Salvadego put a stamp on the evening with his second goal of the night which was unassisted in the 66th minute. The Eagles would go on to claim a 4-1 victory.
Salvadego paced the offense with six shots, including three on frame with a pair of goals. Marcos German and Theo Klein each tallied three shots, followed by Riccardo Sandulli, Christian Sanchez, and Niels Zachriat, who each collected two.
Overall, Central's offense recorded 19 shots with eight on goal, compared to seven shots and three on goal for the Vikings.
Central travels north to face Graceland Saturday, Oct. 16 at 8:30 p.m. in Lamoni, Iowa.
