Fayette, Mo. - The No. 3 Central Methodist men's soccer program cruised past Heart foe Evangel University by a final score of 8-0 Wednesday night at Davis Field.
With the win, Central improves its overall record to 6-0-3 and 3-0-2 in conference action. The Valor fall to 1-7-1 and 0-5-0 in the Heart.
The Eagles' offense cruised from start to finish, including five first half goals. Sebastian Bocaz Canales got the scoring started with a goal off the assist from Stefano Campisi and Jesse Bank in just the fifth minute of play.
Campisi added Central's second goal in the 15th minute, and just two minutes later, Tom Irion scored the third goal of the match.
Irion and Jayton Johnson would add a pair of goals less than 40 seconds apart in the closing minutes of the first half, giving Central a 5-0 lead at halftime.
Central's offense continued to push in the second period, as Campisi scored his second goal in the 49th minute with the assist from Isaac Johnson. Leading 6-0, Cian Halpin and Vitor Antelo sealed the victory with scores in the 77th and 82nd minute.
Campisi and Irion each tallied two goals, while Campisi and Jayton Johnson dished out two assists apiece. CMU tallied 18 total shots including 13 on goal. The defense held Evangel to just one shot in the opening minutes of the second half.
Altogether, 11 Eagles recorded at least one shot, including six players with two or more shots.
Freshman goalkeeper Beer De Vos earned his fifth win of 2022, playing the first 45 minutes between the posts. Yannick Schoeni came in the second half to close the match out and preserve the clean sheet.
Central will head back out on the road for a Saturday night contest against Grand View on Oct. 1 at 6:00 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
