Fayette, Mo. - The No. 2 Central Methodist Men's soccer team used four second half goals to sail past Heart foe Park University 4-0 Saturday night at Davis Field.
With the victory, Central improves to 7-0-3 and 4-0-2 in conference, while the Pirates fall to 6-5 and 3-4 in the Heart.
The first goal of the match came in the 22nd minte off the foot of Mark Csongradi, who was assisted by Stefano Campisi. It mark's Csongradi's first goal of 2022. Leading 1-0 at the halftime break, Campisi pushed Central's lead to 2-0 in the 52nd minute off the assist from Guilherme Pereira.
Less than 20 minutes later, Alessandro Salvadego scored back-to-back goals in the 69th and 70th minute of play to extend the lead to 4-0. Cian Halpin put the finishing touches on the match with his second goal of the season in the closing seconds of the match, making the final score 5-0.
Central's offense cruised from start to finish, firing off 26 total shots including 11 on goal. The Pirates finished the evening with six shots and five on goal. Liam Arthur led CMU with five shots, while Campisi recorded four shots, two on goal, one goal scored and an assist.
Tom Irion, Csongradi, and Salvadego all added three shots, including a brace for Salvadego in his first appearance on the pitch since early September.
Sebastian Bocaz Canales added two assists as did Jeremiah Johnson. Vitor Antelo also dished out an assist in the second half.
Beer De Vos earned his seventh win of the year between the posts, playing every minute for Central and picking up five saves. He also preserved the shut out with a penalty kick save in the 36th minute of the first half. The 5-0 shut out marks De Vos' fourth clean sheet of 2022.
The Eagles will pick up where they left off against (RV) Southwestern Christian Thursday, Oct. 13 at 3:00 p.m. at Davis Field. The match will begin at the 28:31 mark of the second half, with Central trailiing SWC, 1-0. The match was suspended on Sept. 8 after a medical emergency with an official.
