Fayette, Mo. - The No. 2 Central Methodist men's soccer program earned a 3-0 shut out victory over Mount Mercy University Saturday afternoon at Davis Field.
With the victory, Central improves to 9-0-4 and 6-0-2 in conference play, while the Mustangs drop to 6-4-3 and 3-3-2 in the Heart.
The Eagles jumped out front in the 27th minute of action on a breakaway counter attack. Sophomore Jeremiah Johnson dribbled down the right sideline and sent a volley into the box to Cian Halpin. Halpin connected on a header which found the back of the net for his first career goal.
Central would take the 1-0 lead into halftime, outshooting the Mustangs 8-4.
CMU added to their lead in the 71st minute, as Alessandro Salvadego connected on a volley from Johnson to push Central's advantage to 2-0. Less than five minutes later, Basil Erne iced the game with his first goal of the season, after the ball found the box on volleys from Beer De Vos and Tom Irion.
Central finished the afternoon with 20 total shots including eight on goal, compared to seven shots and one on goal for Mount Mercy.
Salvadego led the offense with five total shots incuding three on goal and a goal in the 71st minute. Jessa Bank followed with four shots while Vitor Antelo recorded three. Johnson also recorded a pair of assists in the victory.
De Vos earned his eighth win between the posts, recording a clean sheet in a full 90 minutes of action. He also picked up an assist on the final goal of the match.
Central heads back out on the road for a matchup against Benedictine College Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Atchison, Kan.
