Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Soccer team saw its season come to a close Friday evening at Davis Field, as Central suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to No. 23 MidAmerica Nazarene.
Prior to the match, Central honored its 2024 senior class which included Hayden Wood, Guilherme Pereira, Matheus Storck, Basil Erne, Cesar Cuellar, Leonardo Chiulli, Angelo Junior de Lannoy, Morris Van Tuinen, Mohamed Belmahdi and Brenden Flannell.
The first half was very well-balanced for both sides. The Pioneers won the shot battle 7-3 but could not find the breakthrough thanks to some crucial saves from sophomore goalkeeper Niccolo Cabras who recorded nine saves through the course of the evening.
The Eagles started the second half more aggressively looking to get a shot in the back of the net. However, the match remained scoreless until the 75th minute, when MNU's Rick Hovinga broke the deadlock and put his side up, 1-0.
With just 15 minutes remaining until the final whistle, both sides had clear opportunities to change the match, but neither side could capitalize.
Central finished with 12 total shots including four on goal, compared to 23 for MidAmerica Nazarene and 10 on goal.
CMU concludes their season with a 9-6-3 overall and a 3-6-2 mark in conference play.
