Salina, Kan. - The Central Methodist Men's Soccer team rolled past Kansas Wesleyan University in a non-conference matchup Saturday morning in Salina, Kansas.
Central defeate the Coyotes by a final score of 7-1. With the win, CMU improves to 1-1-1, while KWU drops to 1-1.
The seven goals are the most goals scored since Central's 8-0 shutout of Culver-Stockton on Oct. 24, 2023.
Matteo Giora started the scoring for Central in just the third minute of play, with the assist coming from Rimon Beyene. Pelayo Suarez followed with a goal in the 22nd minute, assisted by Robin Vandewalle, to put Central up 2-0 midway through the first half.
An own goal by the Coyotes in the 24th minute, followed by score from Andrew Ward in the 31st minute gave Central a 4-0 lead at the halftime break.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Vandewalle scored one of his two goals to extend CMU's lead to 5-1. The Coyotes got on the board 77th minute, before Alvin Brämhagen and Vandewalle solidified the win with goals in the 82nd and 90th minute of play.
Despite being outshot by KWU, 16-13, 11 of Cenral's shots were on target compared to eight for Kansas Wesleyan.
Vandewalle led the way for Central's offense with four shots, all coming on goal, including a brace. He also dished out a pair of assists in the win.
Niccolo Cabras earned his first win of the year between the posts, making six saves in 76 minutes of action. Alejandro Gonzalez played the final 14 minutes, recording a pair of saves.
Central returns home to host Central Baptist College Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
