Fayette, Mo. - In an eventful second half, the Central Methodist Men's Soccer team came back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against (RV) William Woods Saturday night in the Heart Opener at Davis Field.
The Eagles now stand at 2-1-2 and 0-0-1 in the Heart of America, while the Owls move to 2-1-1 and 0-0-1 in conference action.
In a very even first half, Central held a slight advantage in shots taken at 8-7, while William Woods held the advantage in first half corners at 4-1.
Woods started the scoring with back-to-back goals in the 56th and 62nd minute of play.
Landing in a quick 2-0 deficit, the Eagles' got a boost from senior Koen Schimmel in the 63rd minute. Goalkeeper Niccolo Cabras sent a booming kick to the William Woods' final third, which found the feet of Schimmel. Schimmel then took a few touches and sent a low driving shot into the bottom corner of the net for the score.
The Eagles trailed 2-1 for the next 22 minutes, before finding the equalizer in the 86th minute.
Antoine Hurel took a corner kick which was headed by Schimmel. On the ensuing touch, Matteo Giora struck the ball with his left foot, which found the corner of the net to tie the game.
It marks Giora's fourth consecutive goal in as many matches.
Neither side was able to find a go-ahead goal in the closing moments of the game, as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Central outshot Woods in the match, 18-14, while the Owls held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Eagles hit the road to face off against No. 3 nationally ranked MidAmerica Nazarene Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 3:30 p.m in Olathe, Kan.
