Oskaloosa, Iowa - In their second match of four-straight contests against top 20 nationally ranked opponents, the Central Methodist Men's Soccer program battled back in the second half to earn a 2-2 draw against No. 5 William Penn Saturday afternoon in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
CMU now stands at 2-2-3 and 0-1-2 in the Heart, while WPU moves to 3-1-3 and 1-0-2 in conference action.
The 2024 national runner ups struck first with a goal in the 30th minute to take a 1-0 lead over CMU. Central trailed at the halftime break by the one score margin, finishing the first half with just three shots.
Central's first shot on goal in the second half came as a result from a corner kick, which was taken by Pelayo Suarez. Suarez found Antoine Hurel for the equalizer in the 52nd minute.
The Statesmen responded almost instantly with a goal less than two minutes later.
Central continued to battle through the next 20 minutes searching for the game-tying goal. CMU eventually found the score courtesy of senior Koen Schimmel in the 76th minute.
The Eagles kept William Penn off the scoreboard for the remainder of the match, securing a 2-2 draw.
William Penn outshot CMU 17-6 for the match. But five of Central's six shots came on goal, compared to just six shots on frame for the Statesmen.
CMU returns home to host No. 14 Missouri Valley College Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Davis Field.
