Kansas City, Mo. - For the first time this season, Central Methodist junior midfielder Pelayo Suarez was named the Heart of America Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week by the conference office Monday.
This marks the first Heart weekly honor of his career.
The native of Asturias, Spain played a critical role in Central's upset win over previously unbeaten and No. 13 ranked Grand View University Saturday afternoon.
Suarez scored two goals including the game winner on a deflected penalty kick save with just over two minutes remaining, giving CMU a 3-2 win.
He also recorded an assist in the victory.
To date, Suarez has scored five goals and dished out three assists.
Central currently sits second in the Heart of America with a 7-2-4 overall record and a 4-1-3 mark in conference play.
The Eagles will next take on Graceland University Saturday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m. in Lamoni, Iowa.
