Lamoni, Iowa - The Central Methodist Men's Soccer program just edged Graceland University with a late goal Saturday evening in Lamoni, Iowa.
Central defeated the Yellowjackets by a final score of 2-1, pushing their undefeated streak to eight consecutive matches.
The Eagles struggled in the first half to find an offensive rhythm, not registering any shots for the first 45 minutes of play. Graceland on the other hand, recorded four total shots.
However, Central adjusted at the break and earned a penalty kick in the opening two minutes of the second half. Senior captain Koen Schimmel converted the PK to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
GU responded eight minutes later with the equalizer to tie the match at 1-1.
It appeared the match would results in a draw, before CMU found one final offensive push in the final three minutes.
Antoine Hurel found Alvin Brämhagen in the final third with space in the middle of the field. Brämhagen found the upper right corner of the net past the keeper's outstretched glove for the game winner.
Graceland outshot the Eagles 15-6 and 5-2 in shots on goal. However, Niccolo Cabras made four key saves in between the posts to earn his sixth win of the year.
The Eagles currently sit atop the Heart Regular Season standings with four games remaining. Central will next travel to Atchison, Kansas to take on Benedictine College Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m.
