Griffin Places Second at Missouri Valley Invitational

Marshall, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Wrestling Team took part in the highly competitive Missouri Valley Invitational this weekend in nearby Marshall, Mo.

The event, which featured some of the best NAIA wrestling programs from around the country, played host to 43 NAIA schools.

As a team, the Eagles secured 49 team points to finish in 17th place. Grand View won the Invitational with 230.5 points, followed by Eastern Oregon with 142 and Southeastern (Fla.) with 136.5.

Individually, nine different Eagles scored team points, including three grapplers wrestling into day two of the meet Saturday.

Junior Donald Griffin had the best showing of the weekend for CMU, going 5-1 and earning an appearance in the 157-pound title match. He would ultimately fall to Dylan Whitt of Grand View by a 12-6 decision in the title bout.

Freshman Jason Shaw joined Griffin on day two, posting a 3-2 record at 133 pounds. Fellow freshman Elijah Hynes also finished the weekend with a 3-2 record.

Central will next host rival Missouri Valley College Friday, Jan. 27 at 7:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House for Senior Night.
