Warrensburg, Mo. - The CMU men's wrestling team competed Sunday at the UCM Roger Denker Open, squaring off against a strong field that featured several nationally recognized programs in Warrensburg. 

Gavin Alexander led the way for Central with a sixth-place finish at 133 pounds.

Alexander opened the tournament with a first-round decision victory before falling in the quarterfinals via a pin. He responded in the consolation bracket with two wins by major decision and a technical fall.

He advanced to the consolation semifinals before dropping a tight tiebreaker and finishing his day via medical forfeit in the fifth-place match.

At 141 pounds, Drew Cooper impressed early with a pair of dominant pinfall victories. Cooper secured back-to-back falls in the championship rounds to advance to the quarterfinals, showcasing aggressive offense before being eliminated later in the bracket.

Blake Eads (149) pieced together a strong run through the consolation rounds, collecting two bonus-point victories. Eads earned wins by fall and technical fall to pick up two wins in his weight class. 

Central will next compete in the highly touted Missouri Valley Invitational beginning Friday, Jan. 23 at 9:00 a.m. in Marshall, Mo.
