FAYETTE, Mo. - Central Methodist runners claimed spots three through six at the finish line Saturday morning, and the Eagles captured the season-opening 2014 Eagle Invitational at Fayette Golf Club. The Green and Black totaled a race-low 26 points in the 5k event, narrowly ahead of second-place finisher Westminster (Mo.) at 34 points and Wentworth Military Academy (Mo.) at 78 points.

Central Methodist's Ryan Dickson, Austin Jones, Tyler Meierarend and Brett Davis finished within 34 seconds of each other. Overall, the Eagles posted eight of the top 11 finishers.

"I was happy to see some of our less well-known runners take charge today," Eagles' coach Mark Nelson said. "When we get into the main part of our competitive season, these are the runners that will dictate our level of success."

Dickson finished third overall in a time of 17:31.36.�

The Eagles' Zach Feurt, Gage Lemmon, Rory Concannon and Cody Klemp placed eighth through 11th, respectively. Rodes Ratliff rounded out the Eagle finishers, placing 13th overall.

Westminster's Jesse Edwards won the race with a time of 17:12.03.

Central Methodist's next event will come on Sept. 13 in the Mule Run in Warrensburg, Mo.
