Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist University men's cross country team kicked off the 2016 season on a positive note, claiming victory Saturday morning at the Fayette Golf Course.
"The men did great today," said CMU Director of Cross Country Mark Nelson. "We have a very young squad. I was happy to see Elliot (Knernschield) win and I was happy with how our men competed today. Our performance today really bodes well for this season.
The Eagles competed Saturday against four runners from Westminster College. Elliot Knernschield claimed the win Saturday with a final time of 17:04.54. Michael Neeley (JR/Kansas City, Mo.) and Ryan Bennett (FR/Eldon, Mo.) finished third and fourth respectively with final times of 17:48.24 and 18:29.78.
Justin Smith (JR/Orland, Calif.) and Joseph Bruemmer (FR/Jefferson City, Mo.) finished in sixth and seventh place respectively, while Doug Hutcherson (SR/Clinton, Mo.) and Ethan Lasley (FR/Grain Valley, Mo.) finished in 10th and 11th place.
The Eagles' are off next weekend, before returning to action on Saturday September 10th at 10am, when they host the annual Gary Stoner Invite at the Fayette Golf Course.
