Eagle Duo Make History as Cross Country Competes at Brian Simpson Invitational

Columbia, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Cross Country team had a memorable day at the Brian Simpson Invitational Saturday morning in Columbia, Missouri.

There were 190 athletes representing 14 different teams from the NAIA, NCAA Division II, and club levels.

Sophomore Kyle Newberry finished the 8K in 29th place with a time of 26:02.56, the 16th fastest 8K time in program history. Teammate Grant Engel ran the race in 26:14.76 to place 36th. Engel's time was good enough to join Newberry in the CMU all-time Top 25 at No. 18.

Meshack Kiptanui (76th - 27:20.55), Elliott Reed (168th - 30:30.15), and David Ceballos (187th - 34:18.28) also competed for CMU.

As a team, the men placed 11th with 294 points. St. Mary (Kan.) won the team title with 39 points, followed by Drury (59) and Kansas Wesleyan (100).

Central will conclude regular season competition at the Blazing Tiger Classic Saturday, Oct. 26 in Ashland, Neb.
