#21 Eagles Bow Out Of Heart Tournament

#21 Eagles Bow Out Of Heart Tournament
Overland Park, Kan. The 21st ranked and #1 seed Central Methodist University softball team saw their run come to an end on Saturday afternoon in the Heart of America Athletic Conference postseason softball tournament. CMU fell to Avila University for the second time in the tournament, by a final of 3-2 in Overland Park, Kansas.

With the loss, #21 Central Methodist University falls to 41-16 overall and will await word later this coming week on where they will head for their NAIA Opening Round series. Avila University improves to 35-19-2 overall, and advance to The Heart Championship against Grand View University. Avila must win twice to be crowned champions; a postseason at-large bid is on the line.

Following a 1-2-3 top of the first inning, the Central Methodist offense attacked right off the bat in the bottom of the first inning to claim a 1-0 lead. Skyler Hime (Raymore, Mo.) singled to lead-off the inning, which was then followed by an RBI double by Jessie Wilmes (Flint Hill, Mo.) to give CMU the early lead.

The Avila offense then struck the very next half-inning, to the tune of three runs on three hits, and they left the bases loaded.

Following the early scoring, both starting pitchers would settle in. CMU would strike for just one more run in the game, coming in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to one. However, Avila's Eagles held on for the 3-2 victory in the end.

Central starting pitcher Erin Enke (Martinez, Calif.) went all seven innings for CMU, while allowing three runs on six hits, with six strikeouts and two walks.

Offensively for CMU, the aforementioned Hime and Wilmes, combined to finish 3-for-7 at the plate with two doubles, one run scored, one RBI, and one walk. Hannah Blackmon (Beaumont, Tex.) finished 1-for-4 at the plate with a solo homerun, her sixth of the season.
