Atchison, Kansas - The (#21) CMU Women's Basketball fell Friday night to (#13) Benedictine College, 61-46. They will now await their fate for the NAIA National Tournament, with the selection show slated for Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles stayed close for most of the 1st quarter. But after a free throw by Paige Albrecht (SR/Yakima, Wash.) brought CMU within 10-13, Benedictine hit three 3's to end the quarter. They led CMU 22-10 after the first stanza.
After the Eagles cut the lead to 8 with 5:06 left in the 2nd quarter, the Ravens again pushed the lead to 11 at the half. Central Methodist was never able to get things going offensively against a stingy Raven defense, which held CMU to 26.2% shooting for the game. Benedictine was only slightly better, shooting 29%, but points off turnovers and 2nd chance points for the Ravens proved the difference.
Paige Albrecht was the lone Eagle in double figures, with 11 points. Lexi Moe led CMU in rebounding, pulling down 10 boards.
Head CMU Women's Basketball Coach Mike Davis had this to say about the game, "We did not play very well tonight. We did not play with poise or purpose. Benedictine frustrated us on the offensive end, and we just need to be better at this time of year. We will need to wait to see if we have done enough to earn an at-large bid to the tournament."
