FAYETTE, Mo. – The No. 23 Central Methodist University women's basketball team defeated conference rival Missouri Valley College at home on Saturday after a strong second half showing.
The Eagles (11-4, 7-2 Heart) were led in scoring by a trio of transfers that combined for 60 of the squad's 76 points. Mercedes Jefflo (JR/Compton, Calif.) led all scorers in the contest while finishing with with a double-double consisting of 26 points and 10 rebounds. Tatiana Grant (SR/Milwaukee, Wis.) contributed 22 points, six rebounds, and five steals. Lajanea Kimbrough (SR/Indianapolis, Ind.) came off the bench to round out the double-figure scoring at 12 points while tacking on seven rebounds.
A solid defensive effort by the Eagles resulted in 28 turnovers and a 38.5 shooting percentage for the Vikings. Central Methodist won the rebound battle at 47-38, led by Shannon Mitchell (SR/Seligman, Mo.) who secured 12, while also tying a season-high of 19 team steals.
The Eagles will return to action on Monday, Jan. 7, with a trip to William Penn University. Game time is set for 5:30 pm.
