Raymore, Mo. - In their first season back as a program, the Central Methodist men's and women's golf programs began postseason competition at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships Monday and Tuesday at The Golf Club at Creekmoor in Raymore, Mo.
The women finished sixth (1157) out of 12 teams, while the men also placed sixth (956).
On the individual side, freshman Cassandra Contreras won the tournament with a score of 243. Contreras entered the final 18 holes in fourth place, trailing the day one leader by four strokes, but shot one over par to become the women's individual medalist. She was also named the Heart golfer of the year, the first athlete in program history to earn the honor. Contreras will represent the league and the Eagles as an individual competitor at the national championship, set to take place on May 25-28 at Rose Creek Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Alea Andrade landed in the Top 20 with an 18th place finish at 269. On the team side, Park won on a one-hole playoff, as both the Pirates and Mount Mercy tied for first-place after 54 holes of golf (1043). After tallying the results of the playoff hole, Park won the conference championship by a single stroke over the Mustangs.
For the Central men, Tiago Swart posted a T13 finish with a three-round score of 236, followed by Aaron Teece at T16 (238) and Matias Baccola (239). For his overall performance this spring season, Baccola was named Heart All-Conference, the first golfer on the men's side to earn the honor since 2014.
Missouri Valley's Felipe Gomez won the individual conference championship, shooting a three-round total of 223, while Grand View won the team title with a three-round score of 915.
