Oskaloosa, Iowa - The No. 8 Central Methodist women's soccer team used two first half goals from Andrea Villar to earn a 2-0 road victory over William Penn University Saturday afternoon in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
With the win, Central improves to 7-1 and 4-0 in conference play, while WPU falls to 2-6 and 0-3 in the Heart. Villar opened up the scoring just 50 seconds into the match on a ball that was deflected by the goalkeeper and then tapped in by the Madrid, Spain native.
Just five minutes before halftime, Villar struck again to give Central a 2-0 lead on an assist from Carlotta Baldo and Marcella Helena.
The Eagles defense held the Statesmen without a goal in the second half, as Central would come away with a 2-0 shut out victory.
Villar's two goals against William Penn mark the third consecutive match in which she has recorded multiple goals and the seventh match in the last eight in which she has scored at least once. Villar finished the afternoon with three total shots including two on goal in 71 minutes of play.
Roneisha Frank tallied five total shots with three on goal, while Helena recorded three shots along with an assist. Sophomore Sandra Jakobsen picked up her 11th assist of 2021, and her third-straight match of at least one assist.
Freshman goalkeeper Grace Reynolds made her first career start between the posts for CMU, playing all 90 minutes to earn the win.
As a team, the Eagles finished the day with 18 total shots including six on goal, compared to just three shots and none on goal. It marks Central's sixth shutout in the last eight matches so far this season.
CMU returns home to host Benedictine College Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 5:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
