Fayette, Mo. - Behind a complete team effort, the No. 5 Central Methodist women's soccer team took control of the Heart regular-season standings with a 5-0 victory over No. 17 Missouri Valley College Wednesday night at Davis Field.
With the win, Central improves its overall record to 13-1 and a perfect 10-0 mark in conference play. The Vikings fall to 11-3 and 8-1 in the Heart. CMU has now won 19 consecutive Heart regular season matches dating back to Oct. 10, 2020.
The Eagles opened the scoring early with three first-half goals, beginning with Roneisha Frank in the sixth minute of play off the assist from Celine Witt. 10 minutes later, Andrea Villar added the second goal of the evening on a penalty kick.
Lidia Vicente de Vera added the final goal of the half in the 37th minute, her first of the season and second of her career. Central would take a 3-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Central's offense continued to roll in the second half, as Frank once again found the back of the net in the 55th minute from Maria Cervello. 16 minutes later, Cervello put the finishing touches on the evening with the final goal of the match from Sandra Jakobsen. The Eagles would go on to claim a 5-0 victory over Missouri Valley.
Frank led the Eagles' with five total shots including two shots on goal and a brace. Alicia Zamora and Villar each tallied three shots, with two on goal for Villar including a penalty kick in the first half season.
Overall, the Eagle offense recorded 18 shots and nine coming on goal. The defense held the Vikings to only five shots and two on goal, including zero shots in the first half.
Central will host Clarke University Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1:30 p.m. on senior day in their final regular-season home match of the year.
