Atchison, Kan. - The No. 6 Central Methodist Women's Soccer team suffered just its second road loss of the season in a 3-2 defeat to Benedictine College Wednesday night in Atchison, Kan.
Central now stands at 13-2-2 and 8-2 in conference play, while the Ravens improve to 11-5-1 and 8-2 in the Heart.
Benedictine's offense came out firing on all cylinders, scoring two goals in the opening 10 minutes of play. Trailing 2-0, freshman Sara Garcia sent a right-footed shot that curled into the top right corner of the net for the score, cutting the lead to 2-1 in the 33rd minute.
Central would trail by just one at the half and held just a slight advantage in total shots at 5-4, and shots on goal, 4-3.
Benedictine would stretch its lead back out to two when Raven forward Payton Vogelbacher sent a ball over the outstretched gloves of Madison Priebe into the back of the net in the 60th minute.
CMU responded less than four minutes later on a set piece. Courtesy of a corner, Paula Castro sent a ball into the box that found Nerea Munoz. The sophomore headed the ball towards the goal and just snuck past the Raven defense to trim the deficit to 3-2.
Central was unable to find the equalizer in the final 25 minutes, as the Ravens would go on to earn the one-goal win.
The Eagles will remain on the road for another tough matchup against Clarke University on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1:00 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
