Dubuque, Iowa - The Central Methodist Women's Soccer program secured a key road win over Clarke University by a a score of 2-0 Saturday afternoon in Dubuque, Iowa.
Central improves its overall record to 14-2-1 and 9-2 in conference play. The Pride fall to 11-3-3 and 7-2-1 in the Heart of America.
The Eagles set the tone early in the first half, as senior forward Kirstine Lykke made her mark in the 29th minute, scoring unassisted to put Central out in front 1-0.
In the second half the Denmark native struck again, this time assisted by junior Lacey Ann Murray in the 58th minute. The goal was Lykke's 15th of the season and extended CMU's lead to 2-0.
Despite Clarke's efforts to respond and late shots in the second half, they were unable to find the back of the net against a stout Central Methodist defense.
Eagle' goalkeeper, Madison Priebe, was instrumental in maintaining the clean sheet, picking up three crucial saves to keep Clarke at bay.
Central Methodist outperformed Clarke in terms of shots, recording 12 compared to the Pride's 7. The Eagles also tallied four corner kicks against three for CU.
With the victory, CMU concludes their regular season and will return to Davis Field Tuesday, Nov. 5 to host a Heart of America Tournament Quarterfinal match. Central's opponent and time of the match will be announced at a later date.
