Kansas City, Mo. - For the first time this season, Central Methodist junior forward Mariana Barreto was named the Heart of America Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday.
In two matches this past week, the native of Valencia, Venezuela, scored five goals and dished out three assists as the Eagles went a perfect 2-0 against Briar Cliff and William Woods.
Against the Chargers on Wednesday, Barreto netted her first hat trick of the year to lead Central to a 4-1 win in Sioux City.
She followed that up with a brace and a pair of assists in a 6-1 victory over William Woods on Saturday.
Barreto leads the Eagles with six goals and three assists so far this season. CMU currently boasts a 3-1-1 record and a 1-0 record in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
The Eagles will travel to Olathe, Kansas, to take on No. 13 MidAmerica Nazarene in a rematch of last year's Heart Tournament Championship Game, which is also this week's Heart Game of the Week.
Kickoff is set for Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 1:00 p.m.
