CMU falls late in five games to Baker

FAYETTE, Mo. - Central Methodist dropped a Heart of America Athletic Conference match Tuesday against Baker (Kan.) on Senior Night inside Puckett Fieldhouse.

Already leading the match 2-1, the Eagles staked to a 17-14 lead in game four, but the Wildcats rallied to outscore the Green and Black 11-2 down the stretch before winning the fifth set by eight points.

Central Methodist (16-12, 2-7) lost to Baker (21-8, 7-2) in five games by scores of 29-31, 28-26, 25-23, 19-25 and 7-15.

Tuesday marked the final home match for Eagles' seniors Makenzie Shepard, Katie Brecheisen, Kylie Melkersman, Jennifer Garrett and Taylor Russell.

Crystal Simon was one of five Wildcats to post double-digit kill figures and led the squad with 22. Renata Dill, with 44 digs, led four Baker players to accumulate more than 10 digs Tuesday. Hannah Bettge dished out 59 assists.

The story of the night for the Eagles was Melody Hanson's double-double effort, coming up with 21 digs and 60 assists. Jordan Jackson sparked Central Methodist's offensive attack with 21 kills, while Dana Peters and Jennifer Long had 15 and 13, respectively.

Andrea Lopez, with a team-high 26 digs, was one of five Eagles to total double-digit digs. Hanson, Melkersman (18), Garrett (17) and Haley Willis (11) all posted 10 or more digs. Melkersman also had two service aces.
