CMU lands three on All-HAAC teams

KANSAS CITY - Central Methodist's Jordan Jackson, Dana Peters and Melody Hanson have been named to the 2013 All-Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Volleyball Teams, the league office announced Tuesday. Jackson was a first-team pick. Peters was a second-team choice, while Hanson was tabbed an honorable mention selection.

Jackson, a junior outside hitter from Blue Springs, Mo., ranked second in the league and 41st in the NAIA in hitting percentage (0.323). She was third in the conference kills per set (3.4).

Peters, a junior right-side hitter from Waverly, Mo., averaged 1.7 kills per game and 4.7 attacks per set. She also totaled 44 digs and 54 blocks.

Hanson, a freshman setter from Spring Hill, Kan., ranked eighth in the HAAC in assists per set (5.5). She totaled a team-high 526 assists to go along with 209 digs and nine service aces.

Conference champion MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) claimed four of the seven individual honors. Vladi Kopanarova was named the Player of the Year, Taryn Salum was selected the setter� of the year, and the coaching staff of Kristin Steele and Pam Luiz were picked as the Coach and Assistant Coach of the Year, respectively.

Two newcomers picked up a pair of individual awards as Kamrin Gold of Culver-Stockton (Mo.) was picked as the Attacker of the Year, while Hannah Bettge of Baker (Kan.) was chosen the Freshman of the Year. The final award goes to Denise Atualevao of Graceland (Iowa), who claimed her second-straight Libero of the Year honor.

Central Methodist finished the season 16-12 overall.
