SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that Central Methodist's Jennifer Garrett, Kylie Melkersman, Dana Peters and Taylor Russell are among 391 volleyball student-athletes that have been named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Garrett and Melkersman earn the honor for a second straight season.

Garrett, a senior defensive specialist from Higginsville, Mo., played in 28 matches this season and averaged 1.14 digs per game.

Melkersman, a senior setter from Boonville, Mo., played in 23 matches. She was first on the team with 19 service aces and second with 251 assists to go along with 135 digs.

Peters, a junior right-side hitter from Waverly, Mo., appeared in 26 matches during the 2013 campaign. The second team All-HAAC member was fourth on the team with 155 kills. She also totaled 44 digs and 54 blocks.

Russell, a senior setter from Festus, Mo., appeared in 24 matches and was third on the team with 15 service aces.

Hastings (Neb.) and Concordia (Neb.) lead all institutions with eight individuals on the list.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
