Fayette, Mo. The Central Methodist University Lady Eagles volleyball team kicked off Homecoming weekend with an impressive 3-0 victory over Avila University on Friday evening inside of Puckett Field House. Final scores were 25-15, 25-20, and 25-13.

With the victory, Central Methodist improves to 25-7 overall and 5-4 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. With the loss, the Avila University Eagles fall to 13-15 overall and 1-8 in The Heart.

The Lady Eagles conquered in the first set, outhitting Avila .333 to .176. Central Methodist pulled away in the ladder stages of the set for the impressive 25-15 victory.

The second set was the closest of the night, as both teams struggled to hit the ball. CMU took the second set 25-20.

Central Methodist closed out the match in the third set, dominating Avila 25-13. In the third set, CMU outhit Avila .444 to .029.

Senior Lindsay Smith led CMU with 13 kills, while Caitlin Petty and Savvy Hughes led the way in assists with 17 and 16 each. Darcy Latham paced the Lady Eagles with 10 digs in the match.

The Lady Eagles honored their seniors prior to the match on Friday evening. They are Katie Dozier (St. Charles, Mo.), Lindsay Smith (Gainesville, Fla.), and Julia Weber (Jackson, Mo.).

Central Methodist continues their homestand on Tuesday evening, when they host Baker at 7pm inside of Puckett Field House.
