Hannibal, Mo. – The Central Methodist University volleyball team rolled to their eighth straight win on Tuesday evening, defeating Hannibal-LaGrange University 3-0 in a non-conference match. Final scores were 25-5, 25-12, and 25-19.
With the victory, Central Methodist improves to 11-2 overall on the year, while Hannibal-LaGrange University falls to 0-5.
"We played very well tonight," said CMU head volleyball coach Allison Jones-Olson. "This match allowed us to provide younger girls with game experience. Now our eyes are set on the home opener against William Woods University."
The Central Methodist Volleyball team has been on a tear, since their loss on August 27th to then 12th ranked Park University. The Eagles have won all eight matches since, including a win their very next match after Park, against 22nd ranked Ottawa University. During this eight match win streak, the Eagles have won 24 out of their 29 sets played.
On Tuesday evening in Hannibal, the Eagles dominated the Trojans from the opening whistle. Central outscored Hannibal-LaGrange 25-5 in the first set, while finishing with a hitting percentage of 0.526, to Hannibal's -0.320. The Trojans hit in the negatives in the second set too, as CMU defeated Hannibal 25-12.
The third set was the closest of the night, but the Eagles still controlled the set. CMU won 25-19, outhitting the Trojans 0.156 to 0.048. It was the only set of the night that Hannibal hit in the positives.
Central Methodist was led by Emma Drake (FR/Columbia, Mo.) off the bench, with eight kills. Caitlin Petty (SO/Leopold, Mo.) led the way with 30 assists, while Erin Dodd (SR/Pittsburg, Ill.) led the team with 10 digs.
The Eagles return home Wednesday night for their 2016 home opener inside of Puckett Fieldhouse William Woods University. Match time is set for 7pm, and it will be 80's Night inside of Puckett.
