Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist University volleyball team won their second straight conference match of the season on Tuesday evening, 3-0 over the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats. Final scores were: 25-15, 25-18, and 25-21.
With the victory, Central Methodist improves to 16-3 on the season and 2-0 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. With the loss, Culver-Stockton College falls to 3-11 overall and 0-2 in The Heart.
"The ladies played well tonight," said CMU head volleyball coach Allison Jones-Olson. "We had good runs in the first two games, and focused in the third set to finish the match."
Central Methodist looked refreshed on Tuesday, after having a week off from match play. CMU came out and defeated Culver in straight sets and with ease. CMU took the first set 25-15, and then rolled to a 25-18 victory in the second set. Things got tougher in the third set, but CMU was able to claw out the 25-21 victory.
Darcy Latham (JR/Bismark, Mo.) led the Eagles with 13 kills, while Erin Dodd (SR/Pittsburg, Ill.) led the team with 10 digs. Samantha Reed (SO/Westfield, Ind.) finished with a team high 19 assists, and Melody Hanson (SR/Spring Hill, Kan.) chimed in with 11 assists of her own.
The Eagles head south this weekend to Point Lookout, Missouri, to take part in the College of the Ozarks tournament. First up Friday, a pair of matches against Johnson & Wales University, and Haskell Indian Nations University at 3pm and 5pm respectively.
