Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The Central Methodist University volleyball team completed a perfect roadtrip in Iowa on Saturday afternoon, by defeating Mount Mercy University by a final of 3-2. Final scores were: 25-22, 25-17, 15-25, 17-25, and 15-11.
With the victory, Central Methodist matches their win total from last season and improve to 26-3 overall and remain perfect at 7-0 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. Central has now won a season best, 15 straight matches. With the loss, Mount Mercy University falls to 16-6 overall and 3-2 in The Heart.
"I am so proud of our girls today," said CMU head volleyball coach Allison Jones-Olson. "Mount Mercy is a strong team and played us extremely tough. The girls were resilient and played with a ton of heart. I can't say enough about their effort today."
Jones-Olson continued, "Overall, it was a great weekend and we picked up some huge wins. But we have to get back to work for a big game Tuesday, for Couch Night at Puckett Field House, beginning at 7pm."
The Eagles got off to a quick start on Saturday afternoon at Mount Mercy University. CMU took the first two sets, by finals of 25-22 and 25-17. Mount Mercy would use their home crowd to their advantage and rallied to take the next two sets by finals of 25-15 and 25-17.
Central dug down deep, and were able to take the fifth and final set by a score of 15-11.
Kylie Limback (FR/Waverly, Mo.) led the Eagles with 11 kills, while Samantha Reed (SO/Westfield, Ind.) led the team with 20 assists. Erin Dodd (SR/Pittsburg, Ill.) finished with a game high 36 digs.
The Eagles return home this Tuesday to host 25th ranked Peru State College. Tuesday's match is scheduled to begin at 7pm inside of Puckett Field House.
